The Department of Linguistics works with the College of Arts and Sciences to allow students to complete a request to substitute English for a research language. Requests are generally processed within one week. However, response times may vary depending on the timing of the request. 

How to submit a request

• Complete the Request to Substitute English for a Research Language form
• Complete each section including all signatures from the applicant's department
• Provide the official SIS student records for TOEFL score*
• Please email all materials to lingdept@iu.edu
