Through readings, in-class discussion, and writing assignments, students in this course will examine the roles that biology and environment play during first language development, addressing the critical period for language learning and what happens if the right kind of input is not received during that time. We will consider both typical language development and language learning by children in exceptional circumstances. This course fulfills the College Intensive Writing requirement.
