Lecture (LEC)
In the first part of the course we will overview basic concepts and approaches to morphological analysis that will include different perspectives on word structure. The course, will then largely examine morphology through the approach of Construction Morphology developed in work of Geert Booij and colleagues. There will also be a focus on nonconcatenative morphology throughout the course. Students will be encouraged to center their work on one or more aspects of the morphology of a single language or on closely related languages or dialects and to develop analyses within the Construction Morphology framework. Course requirements will include a term paper and its presentation. Further, there may be short homework assignments and a midterm. The course will be especially useful for those doing work that involves language documentation.
