We all use language every day, but have you thought about how it actually works? In this course, we analyze several aspects of language and how it is used ¿ from how we produce sounds and construct sentences to how we are able to understand each other. First, we will explore how humans use the sound structure of language to construct words. Then we will explore how we assemble words to communicate meaning. The course has no prerequisites, and takes a hands-on approach, placing emphasis on learning to do (rather than simply learning about) linguistic analysis. This course counts toward fulfillment of IUB GenEd N&M and the COLL (CASE) N&M Breadth of Inquiry requirements.
