Lecture (LEC)
This course is a graduate-level introduction to the theory and methods of phonology. The main goals of the course are to become familiar with the tools - concepts and procedures - for the description and analysis of phonological phenomena, and then to apply the new tool set. Throughout the semester, students will develop a project ¿ from a conspectus, over a presentation, and multiple rounds of feedback, to a short paper ¿ demonstrating their grasp of the concepts and skills acquired in class. The course will also give participants a taste of the beauty and intricacies of the wide array of phonological systems from different languages/language families.
