We were interested in Michael Adams’ recent publication of a seminal work on lexicography, which was heavily indebted to the labors of Prof. Fred Householder of the Department of Linguistics. Prof. Adams is a very prominent and well-regarded scholar of the English lexicon, adjunct in the Department of Linguistics, and current chair of the English department, just downstairs here in Ballantine Hall, so it is not surprising to find his interest coinciding with the interests of scholars, such as Prof. Householder, who helped build this department through the 1960’s and 1970’s.
IULC Publications
What is particularly of interest for the history of our department is the fact that the publisher for this discovered work in lexicography is the organization which became perhaps the most important publisher of linguistic works in the 1960’s and 1970’s, our own IULC. We are gratified to see how the work of our students as well as faculty stalwarts of the discipline over the years continue to impact the field of linguistics and language science. A description by Prof. Adams of the impact and history of the volume can be found here.
Congratulations to Prof. Adams, but also, indirectly, to the I.U. linguistics community!
